Trash and Treasure: Documenting the trash audit experience

July 22, 2014 | By Sarah Olson

Interns from the Office of Sustainability and WE CONSERVE have seen trash and treasure at eight of 15 academic buildings scheduled for trash audits this summer.

Their effort to analyze UW–Madison’s trash is part of a larger initiative to evaluate and improve waste management practices across campus.

So far, the group has found a variety of items ranging from disposable coffee cups and paper towels to hard drives and microwaves.

The Office of Sustainability will release its detailed findings at the end of the 15 trash audits. In the meantime, we’ve compiled a series of photos highlighting the process and items encountered along the way.
