This fall, UW–Madison is participating in the Focus on Energy Higher Education Kit Challenge, offering eligible off-campus students and employees a free home energy-saving kit. To participate, request your kit by October 31st, 2024 and use the code HE-UWMD.
An initiative by Focus on Energy, the Higher Education Kit Challenge is a competition among Wisconsin colleges and universities that promotes energy efficiency among off-campus students and employees by offering savings and sustainability at no cost to participants. At the end of the challenge, the school with the highest participation will receive a $5,000 bonus on their next qualified energy-efficiency project.
What’s in the Energy-Saving Kits?
Focus on Energy provides three different energy-saving packs, each designed to help reduce energy use at home. Whether you rent or own, these kits offer practical tools to cut down on utility costs. Participants can choose from:
- Focus on Baths: Ideal for families with kids or pet owners, this kit includes an efficient handheld showerhead, LED nightlights, aerators, a hot water card, and pipe wrap insulation.
- Focus on Showers: Upgrade your shower to save water without sacrificing pressure. This kit features globe-style LED bulbs, aerators, a hot water card, and pipe wrap insulation.
- Focus on Comfort: Improve your home’s insulation for a more comfortable environment year-round. This kit includes outlet gaskets, weatherstripping, a door sweep, a window insulation kit, LED bulbs, and nightlights.
Limit one free pack per eligible household per year. Kits are available to all Wisconsin residential customers of electric utilities that participate in the Focus on Energy Program.
