
Miquéla Thornton is a professional master’s candidate at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UW–Madison, where she focuses on practicing ethical climate, environment, and social justice storytelling. At the Office of Sustainability, she is a project assistant focused on writing and editing stories related to sustainability at UW-Madison and working with OS communication team interns.
Previously she was the David Maraniss Fellow for the Capital Times, primarily telling the stories of science, environment, and people in Madison. Before pursuing graduate studies, she was an intern and later editorial associate at Robert Downey Jr.’s FootPrint Coalition, a climate-focused nonprofit science initiative and climate technology investment firm. She also holds a B.A. In Creative Writing and Communication of Science & Technology from Vanderbilt University where she served on the boards of the school paper, literary journal, campus podcast, and creative arts dormitory.
She is from Chicago-ish, IL. When she is not writing in Madison’s many coffee shops, she can be found roller skating and biking around the city’s natural areas, exploring art museums, and trying new restaurants.
