Solar Projects
O'Brien Solar Fields
UW–Madison was a key partner in supporting the development of the O'Brien Solar Fields, which provides 20 megawatts of renewable electricity to the local community. The project is a collaborative partnership between the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a range of businesses and agencies that joined forces under the aegis of Madison Gas and Electric’s Renewable Energy Rider.
Gordon Dining & Event Center Rooftop Solar
The Gordon Dining & Event Center features a solar array on its roof that is projected to produce 42,800 kWh of electricity a year, or the energy use of five typical Wisconsin homes. All electricity produced by the panels will directly power the building. The project was supported by the UW–Madison Green Fund and constructed by Madison-based company SunPeak.
Kegonsa Research Campus Solar and Agriculture Project
UW–Madison is working with Alliant Energy to plan a small-scale solar and agrivoltaics project at the UW-Kegonsa Research Campus near Stoughton, WI. The project would be located in an interior section of the campus to help retain the rural character of the area and feature a layout to facilitate agricultural research and education. The project would generate enough clean energy to power more than 450 homes.
