Conservation Captains are students who live in residence halls and encourage their peers to use less and recycle more during Wisconservation. By promoting sustainable living to fellow residents, these students positively influence the attitudes and behaviors of their peers, building a community that cares about and strives for resource conservation.
Responsibilities may include:
- be a role model for sustainable living
- turn out lights in common areas, such as studies and bathrooms, when not in use
- collect and recycle outdated flyers in residence halls
- recycle and compost whenever possible
- create posters for trash rooms to make it clear to other residents which items go in which bins
- promote Wisconservation programs to peers
- encourage participation in the residence hall challenge, Conserve 24/7, and event series
- educate residents about best practices in recycling, composting, and energy conservation
- encourage peers to make clothing donations to Goodwill and/or St. Vinny’s
- participate in Conserve 24/7 and attend Wisconservation events
- help plan Wisconservation events in Housing with the help of involvement coordinators and house fellows, such as:
- Ride a Bike, Make a Smoothie (social event)
- DIY Compost (workshop)
- clothing drive
