This year, the Office of Sustainability is partnering with the UW Homecoming Committee to make sustainability part of the Homecoming tradition. We have expanded Community Service Day to include more community partners, and we will also help make the week’s celebration more sustainable with composting and recycling.
Community Service Day
Sunday, October 19
Students are invited to volunteer on campus and around the Madison area to share their Badger pride and give back to the community. Volunteer sites include the UW Arboretum, the Lakeshore Nature Preserve, Run for Literacy and Riverfood Pantry. Sign up here!
So far, 120 students have signed up to participate. Our goal is to exceed last year’s participation and engage more than 250 students in Community Service Day.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in advance, but walk-ins are still welcome. All volunteers who sign up in advance will be given a free red shirt. Volunteers should meet at the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
Homecoming Kickoff
Monday, October 20
The Office of Sustainability is working with the Homecoming Committee to make Homecoming Kickoff a zero-waste event. We will provide compost and recycling bins for the event, and members of our staff will be on-site to help people sort their waste responsibly.
Homecoming Kickoff will include free food, live entertainment and giveaways from student groups as well as a performance by the UW Marching Band and Spirit Squad. Be sure to pick up your exclusive Homecoming button to wear during the week for special giveaways. Read more.
