The following selection of sustainability courses offered this fall includes a variety of course levels and subject areas. The list is not comprehensive, but instead offers an entry point to show how sustainability applies to many fields of study.

Have you ever thought about your trash? What stories does it tell? History 221/Environmental Studies 404 is a special topics course that will explore the history of waste in America.
Sustainable and Socially Just Consumption
Students in Consumer Science 360 will consider consumers’ power to influence sustainability and social justice through their purchasing decisions. The course also explores how policy and globalization shape consumption habits.
This section of Environmental Studies 402 examines climate change mitigation efforts from the level of individual behavior to national, state, and municipal government policies and international treaties. Students will also evaluate various forms of climate activism as a means of pushing for meaningful action on climate change.
Environment, Natural Resources, and Society
Community and Environmental Sociology 248 introduces sociological principles through the lens of human interaction with the natural environment. The course will consider national and global perspectives on issues such as resource depletion, population growth, food production, and environmental regulation.
Sustainable Approaches to System Improvement
Operations and Technology Management 370 discusses innovative approaches organizations use to embed sustainable practices into their operations. Students will learn to integrate sustainability values into organizational interests such as cost, quality, and brand value.
What role do engineers play in environmental maintenance, management, and protection? Civil Engineering 320 will consider fundamental sanitary aspects of environmental engineering including water supply and wastewater problems, solid waste disposal, and air pollution.
