Year in Review: Green Offices, Labs, and Events

One of our greenest years yet! This year, our Green Office, Green Labs, and Green Events teams partnered with colleagues across UW–Madison to advance sustainability in everyday workplace practices, research operations, and shared campus experiences.

Through these certification programs, we helped offices reflect on everyday workplace practices, supported labs in identifying opportunities to reduce their environmental impact, and recognized event organizers who planned with sustainability in mind. We’re excited to highlight this year’s newest certifications and celebrate the faculty, staff, students, and organizers who helped make them possible.

Green Office

The Green Office team, consisting of undergraduate interns Abhinay Reddy, Ainsley Wade, Amanda Sadowski, Bailey Tomsich, Julia Fechner, Nate Dancer, and Stephanie Wells, certified 17 new offices this fiscal year, as well as four recertifications. We would like to shout out the faculty and staff of these offices for their commitment to office space sustainability:

Green Labs

The Green Labs team of Ainsley Wade, Bailey Tomsich, Caroline Arciszewski, Evie Skibicki, Mira Potter, Rosemary Greany, and Vibha Srinivasan brought in five labs to their program, three of which were recertified. Not only that, but the team also created a comprehensive survey to streamline the process moving forward. Thanks to these labs for joining the Green Labs program this year:

  • WEMPEC Lab (College of Engineering): Gold certified until March 2028
  • Pan Lab (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences): Platinum certified until April 2028
  • COPLOW Lab (School of Veterinary Medicine): Gold re-certified until May 2028
  • Koch Lab (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences): Bronze re-certified until May 2028
  • Bolling Lab (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences): Platinum re-certified until May 2028

Green Events

The Green Events team of Ainsley Wade, Amanda Sadowski, Bailey Tomsich, Caroline Arciszewski, Evie Skibicki, Mira Potter, Rosemary Greany, and Vibha Srinivasan certified a total of 23 events over the past two semesters. These certifications included three Platinum-level events and eight Gold-level events. Thanks to all the event organizers for their contributions to campus sustainability!

We would like to thank all of the UW–Madison staff and faculty who have contributed to campus sustainability through green certifications. We would also like to thank our graduating green team members, Ainsley Wade, Bailey Tomsich, Julia Fechner, Nate Dancer, and Mira Potter, for their dedication this past year and beyond.
