Steve Ackerman

Professor Steve Ackerman received his PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the Colorado State University. His career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison began as a research scientist within the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, or CIMSS. He joined the faculty of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences in 1992. In this position he embarked on multiple education
initiatives that have been recognized with both campus and national awards. In 1999 Steve became director of the CIMSS, successfully leading that research center for 18 years. He has served campus as the Associate Dean for the Physical Sciences, the Associate Vice Chancellor for the Physical Sciences, and is currently the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education. He is also one of “The Weather Guys;” a monthly guest on a popular Wisconsin Public Radio live call-in show.
